About Us

Patterson was founded in 1952 in Fayetteville, NC by James Malcom Thornton.  His vision was to build a moving company that provided high quality moving and storage services to military families, individuals and commercial clients.

Over the next several decades the company expanded and added additional full service facilities throughout North Carolina, South Carolina and Virginia.  All locations offer a full range of relocation services to household goods carriers, agents and forwarders to meet the needs of families and businesses moving local, long distance or internationally.

Operations of the company were taken over by James’s wife, Iris Thornton in 1984 when he passed away.  Iris was well known throughout the community and was very involved in all aspects of the business.  Under her leadership, she expanded operations, reformed policies and procedures, and continued to establish a name in the moving and storage industry.  Iris was instrumental in recruiting the next generation of company leaders by hiring Tom Kiser and David Sneeden in the late 1980s.

Tom and David worked together for additional expansion and made investing back in the company a top priority.  Under their leadership, new warehouses were purchased and built, new contracts were won, and new lines of business were sought out.

Today, the company is run by Tom’s son, Thomas Kiser.  As a child, he worked as a mover during his summer breaks which helped build an appreciation for the hard work performed in the moving and storage industry every day.  Thomas came back into the business in 2016 and worked for several years under the leadership of Tom and David until he took over the role of Chief Operations Office in 2022.  Thomas’s goal is to provide the highest level of service during each encounter and provide a seamless move experience for every customer.  Under Thomas’s leadership, the company has continued to evolve and Thomas has established new relationships that have led to additional growth and expansion to help the company be an industry leader in the future.
